IPL 7 may move to Sri Lanka, Bangladesh or South Africa
IPL 7 2014 appears to be hapless recurrent victim to Lok Sabha Elections in India; a procedure that occurs every 5 years. Those who have followed IPL since its genesis will remember how a lot of fans felt piqued when IPL 2 was force-fed to South Africa. Many pseudo-journalists, who get nominal jobs of interviewing cricket stars on their likes, dislikes and favourite movies, felt the buck as they couldn’t afford going to the Rainbow Nation. Lightning has struck again and what is bizarre, it should do so again 5 years later. There have been no announcements of changes in the ipl 7 teams so far. The current ipl 7 2014 teams are Chennai Super Kings, Delhi Daredevils, Kings XI Punjab, Kolkata Knight Riders, Mumbai Indians, Rajasthan Royals ,Royal Challengers Bangalore and Sunrisers Hyderabad.
IPL 7 Schedule 2014 Window
IPL gets a window between April and May every year, as these months are general recess period between 2 seasons. Interestingly, Lok Sabha elections are also held in this time period owing to many known and unknown reasons. Now, this is a given that Lok Sabha elections won’t budge from its stand; and so a part of IPL 2014, if not whole, will be held in neighbouring Sri Lanka, Bangladesh or moved out completely off the sub-continent to South Africa. The patent reason behind this shift is the lack of security; as the crux of police forces handle elections.
Now, cricket lovers, who love to enjoy IPL 7 on television won’t feel much difference as there will be wholesome live coverage. However, for the organizers and concerned men who know that IPL is a milk cow, this is a tremendous shock. There is ever the potent fear of games being washed down by rains in Sri Lanka. That fear is just the tip of the iceberg.
Problems galore
Stadiums won’t be packed to capacity, as clearly, Sri Lanka won’t indulge that much into matches where just a few of their players would be doing duty. After all, Indians will hold predominance and only 4 foreign players will be allowed per team per match. Ticket prices will have to be reduced to ensure that the number goes high and that will affect the eventual income. Fans who visit and see matches in IPL buy lots of merchandise to revel at stadiums. That will be missing and offer its own jab at the revenue scheme.
To top that, a fair share of income will have to be passed to Sri Lankan and Bangladesh cricket boards respectively. Then again, there is a chance that a few English and Australian players won’t land on Sri Lankan shores for fear of security; a fact confirmed during 1996 World cup. There may also be a bar on Tamil players playing in Sri Lanka; a possibility that would hurt Chennai Super Kings.
