Asus launches  5-inch Padfone.

The new Padfone Infinity packs a 2.2 GHz quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor, versus the 1.7 GHz Snapdragon 600 chip on the original Infinity. Qualcomm has said that the Snapdragon 800 is more power efficient than the Snapdragon 600 while providing faster performance, though Asus hasn't given specifics on battery life for the new Padfone Infinity.

Asus is also cutting down the built-in storage options on the Padfone Infinity, from 32 GB and 64 GB to just 16 GB and 32 GB. To make up for this, Asus has added a microSD card slot to the phone, so users can add a lot more storage on the cheap.

Other specs remain unchanged, Engadget reports. The phone has a 5-inch, 1080p display, 2 GB of RAM, a 13-megapixel rear camera, a 2-megapixel front camera, NFC, Bluetoooth 4.0, and a 2,400 mAh battery. Asus is shipping the Padfone Infinity with Android 4.2.2, along with some of its own software tweaks such as simpler menus and icons, but the original Infinity should get these software updates as well.

Unfortunately for modular computing fans, Asus has no plans for include a keyboard and trackpad dock, like the one that was available with the original Padfone in 2012. "This was removed due to feedback we had from the original PadFone," Asus wrote on its Facebook page. "While the concept was good it was too bulky for everyday use hence the removal of the keyboard."

Engadget reports that the new Padfone Infinity will cost about $640 for the phone alone, plus about $240 for the tablet dock. Keep in mind, however, that not a single U.S. wireless carrier has sold any previous version of the Padfone, ever. It's hard to see how a beefier processor and microSD card slot will change that.

Nokia's  Windows Tablet 'Sirius'.Lunching Comming Soon. 

Lately there have been two pieces of unannounced Nokia hardware that have been dominating the rumor mill. The first is theLumia 1520, which is expected to be one of the first phone/tablet hybrids in the Windows Phone ecosystem, and the second is Nokia's long-rumored tablet. The leaks are continuing on today, as a new image of that Nokia tablet has made its way online.

Paul Thurrott of WinSuperSite shared the image you see above this morning, which shows a large red slab with a camera on its read and buttons on its sides. There's no Nokia branding to be found, but the image does line up with some previously-leaked photos of red tablet with "Nokia" and "Windows RT" logos.

In addition to this render, Thurrott has shed some light on this Nokia tablet's spec list. The slate is said to be codenamed "Sirius" and will reportedly come to market with a 10.1-inch 1920x1080 display, 6.7-megapixel rear camera, quad-core Qualcomm 8974 (Snapdragon 800) processor and a keyboard cover accessory that may provide a boost to the device's 10 hours of battery life. The device is expected to weigh 1.3 pounds and come in at 0.35 inches thick. Pricing will purportedly be set at $499.

Rumors of a Nokia tablet have been kicking around for some time now, but it appears that the Finnish firm is finally ready to put an end to the speculation and actually get such a device in stores. It's good to see that Nokia is extending the colorful design of its Lumia range to this tablet, and so far the device's specs sound impressive enough, though the fact that it's running Windows RT rather than full-on Windows 8 is likely to turn some folks off.

The good news is that it may not be long before we get to try out Nokia's tablet for ourselves, as recent reports have suggested that the device will be introduced (along with the aforementioned Lumia 1520) at an event on Sept. 26. You'd better prepare yourselves for some big new hardware, Nokia fans.

Nexus 7, 4G available in Google Play store.with 2GB of T-Mobile

Nexus 7 fans who have been waiting for an LTE edition of the latest generation of the Google tablet, prepare to loosen your wallets. A 32GB version of the 2013 Nexus 7 with a 4G T-Mobile sim has just hit the Google Play store for $349

Those of us in the United States have had to wait patiently as the LTE model of the new Google Nexus 7 tablet made its way out around the world, but still didn't make an appearance here. Well, the wait is finally over, and if you want to purchase a new Nexus 7 with LTE, it is available in the Google Play Store.

The version available in the Google Play store is unlocked, but it does come with a T-Mobile SIM card which will get you 2GB of data for free for one month. After that, you either have to sign up for a T-Mo plan, or jump to a different carrier. The radio in the Nexus 7 will support the T-Mobile LTE network and the LTE networks for AT&T and Verizon. It will also support the T-Mobile HSPA+ network, the AT&T 3G network, but not the Verizon CDMA network. 

If you want to get your hands on the LTE Nexus 7, it is available through Google Play right now for $349 with 32GB of storage; and, it will be available through T-Mobile stores in October. 

Microsoft sets Surface event for September 23

Redmond is planning to launch its Surface 2 and Surface 2 Pro devices at an invitation-only event in New York later this month.

Microsoft will be launching its next-generation Surface devices and peripherals on September 23 in New York City, according to an invitations Microsoft is sending out to press today.

At an invitation-only event, Microsoft is expected to show off the Haswell-based Surface 2 Proand the Tegra-based Surface 2 -- products about which there've been a number of leaks in the past week-plus.

Microsoft's invitation doesn't specify whether the company also will show off a rumored 7- to 8-inch Surface device. But I'm hearing from my sources this mini Surface won't be part of the September 23 unveiling.

Nokia had been rumored to be targeting September 26 for a New York City launch event. Company watchers believed Nokia planned to launch its "Sirius" ARM-based tablet and/or its "Bandit" Lumia phablet at that event. So far, however, no invitations have gone out for such an event.

Microsoft isn't expected to start selling its Surface 2 or Surface 2 Pro devices this month. It's expected to wait until around the time Windows 8.1 launches and becomes generally available, which is October 18.
