Sony launches New Xperia Z1,India Price. Rs44,990

And the big day for India's Sony fans is here. The company has finally launched its camera-centric smartphone, the Xperia Z1 and the new smartphone will set users back by Rs 44,990, quite a hefty sum to be sure. The company recently unveiled the smartphoneon the international platform and we have all the details about everything it packs. Take a look at our specifications review to know more about the smartphone.

A quick glance at the list reveals that the new smartphone is designed around the same OmniBalance design principles first seen in the Xperia Z. The Z1 also comes with an aluminium frame for a bit more sturdiness. Like most of the recent Sony launches, this one is also water and dustproof. Design aside, the Z1 comes with a 5-inch full HD Triluminos LCD sporting a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. Sony has also added its patent OptiContrast and X-Reality Engine technologies to the display. Internally, the smartphone is packed with Qualcomm’s latest quad-core Snapdragon 800 SoC clocked at 2.2GHz as well as 2GB of RAM. The phone also comes with 16GB of internal flash memory expandable up to 64GB via a microSD slot.

The prize of the show, according to the company, is the 20.7 megapixel primary camera packed with the company's G Lens. The camera comes with a 27mm wide angle, f2.0 aperture, 1/2.3-type CMOS image sensor Exmor RS for mobile as well as BIONZ mobile image processing engine.

And it doesn’t end there. Sony has also put in a range of camera applications for its latest offering. These include Social Live for broadcast videos live from the Xperia Z1 to Facebook and the likes and Info-eye for information on landmarks or books or food after clicking a snap of the same. Another feature, Timeshift burst, will allow Xperia Z1 users to take 61 images with just one click of the shutter. Users will have the option of scrolling back and forth to find the image of their choice. The last on the list is AR effect, which gives a selection of customisable animations to create pictures using the company's Smart AR augmented reality technology. The company has even built in an open SDK for the smartphone's camera for other developers to use its features in third-party apps.

Connectivity-wise, the Z1 comes with almost all the necessities like Wi-Fi, NFC along with LTE cellular connectivity. Rounding up the package is a fairly big 3,000mAh battery. The Sony Xperia Z1 will be available in black, white and purple avatars and will hit stores today.

Here’s a quick look at all the specifications of the Sony Xperia Z1:
  • 5-inch full HD Triluminos display with 1920 x 1080 resolution
  • LTE, Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi hot spot, NFC
  • GPS, GLONASS, Bluetooth 4.0

Asus launches 5-inch Padfone

               Asus launches  5-inch Padfone.

The new Padfone Infinity packs a 2.2 GHz quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor, versus the 1.7 GHz Snapdragon 600 chip on the original Infinity. Qualcomm has said that the Snapdragon 800 is more power efficient than the Snapdragon 600 while providing faster performance, though Asus hasn't given specifics on battery life for the new Padfone Infinity.
Asus is also cutting down the built-in storage options on the Padfone Infinity, from 32 GB and 64 GB to just 16 GB and 32 GB. To make up for this, Asus has added a microSD card slot to the phone, so users can add a lot more storage on the cheap.
Other specs remain unchanged, Engadget reports. The phone has a 5-inch, 1080p display, 2 GB of RAM, a 13-megapixel rear camera, a 2-megapixel front camera, NFC, Bluetoooth 4.0, and a 2,400 mAh battery. Asus is shipping the Padfone Infinity with Android 4.2.2, along with some of its own software tweaks such as simpler menus and icons, but the original Infinity should get these software updates as well.
Unfortunately for modular computing fans, Asus has no plans for include a keyboard and trackpad dock, like the one that was available with the original Padfone in 2012. "This was removed due to feedback we had from the original PadFone," Asus wrote on its Facebook page. "While the concept was good it was too bulky for everyday use hence the removal of the keyboard."
Engadget reports that the new Padfone Infinity will cost about $640 for the phone alone, plus about $240 for the tablet dock. Keep in mind, however, that not a single U.S. wireless carrier has sold any previous version of the Padfone, ever. It's hard to see how a beefier processor and microSD card slot will change that.

Samsung Galaxy Note 3 booking starts

Samsung Galaxy Note 3 booking starts

Samsung is expected to launch the Galaxy Note 3 and Galaxy Gear in India next week but the two devices are already up for pre-booking on its official India online store. As is the practice in India, Samsung has not revealed the price of either products but is offering a combo deal for the two for a pre-booking amount of just Rs2,000. The Galaxy Note 3 is also available for a pre-booking amount of Rs2,000 without the Galaxy Gear.

The Galaxy Note 3, which was unveiled earlier this month at IFA features a 5.7-inch full HD display, the latest Exynos 5 Octa processor clocked at 1.9GHz and a 13-megapixel camera. To dispel the plastic feel, Samsung has given a faux leather layer on the rear cover and has also improved the TouchWiz UI to enhance the S-Pen’s functionality. It runs on the latest Android Jelly Bean 4.3 version, becoming the first non-Nexus smartphone to rock it. We expect it to be priced in the vicinity of Rs50,000.

The Galaxy Gear, on the other hand, is Samsung’s foray into smartwatches. Apart from telling the time, the Galaxy Gear also has a 1.9-megapixel camera and comes with an initial suite of 70 apps. It also features S-Voice and users can both receive and make calls directly from it when it is paired with a compatible device. At the moment, it is only compatible with the Galaxy Note 3 and the Galaxy Note 10.1 (2014 edition) though Samsung has said it will soon be compatible with the Galaxy S4, Galaxy S III and Note II.

We expect the combo deal to be in the vicinity of Rs 70,000. We will be on the ground when Samsung reveals the India pricing and launch details next week. Stay tuned.
